There is speculation that Francis PIGOTT was baptised at Waddesden, 11 Sep 1614, son of Alban PIGOTT, Inner Temple Barrister, by his wife Martha WOOLLEY; Magdalen Hall, Oxon; B.A. June 1633; Middle Temple; called to the Bar, Jun 1641; J.P. for Oak Hundred, Berks, 1665; of Marcham & Hatford, Berks; sold Marcham to Felix CALVERT, 1694, & went to live with his wife Elizabeth & her daughter Muriell Lady LEICESTER in Budworth, Cheshire, where he died in 1694; married, by License of the Bishop of London dated 27 Oct 1664, Elizabeth LAWSON, widow of Francis WATSON of Aston, Salop.
There is further speculation that they had issue a son Francis PIGOTT, born ca 1666, who was Organist of Temple Church, and married in 1688 Anne PELLING, a daughter of John PELLING, who was known to PEPYS through his musical evenings.
This PIGOTT family was not related to the family of Sir Richard PIGOTT (with whom PEPYS had financial dealings), except, perhaps, from before the Conquest in 1066, at Seez, near Argentan, in Normandy.
