About Nils Nillsson, Graf Brahe
Maria • Link
Nils Brahe (the younger), born April 10, 1633 in Anklam in Pommern (then a part of Sweden ), died January 25, 1699 in Stockholm, was a Swedish Count, official and military.
Nils Brahe was born posthumously as son of the National Council and General Nils Brahe the elder and Friherrinnan (Baroness) Anna Margareta Bielke. He was the only son of the parents, and had an older sister, Elsa Elisabeth Nilsdotter Brahe (1632-1689).
During his younger years, Nils Brahe traveled abroad and visited, among other things, the headquarters of Portugal, and Spain, and was sent as ambassador, and was commissioned to execute Karl XI's proprietorship to the future Queen Ulrika Eleonora.
He became Colonel in Uppland's regiments in 1657, and participated in the property of King Karl X Gustav's field train from Poland to Denmark.
He was appointed Colonel of All Ward to Horse and Foot, Deputy Admiral and Amiralism Council in 1660, became the överkammarherre to the King, same year and took a seat in the National Council, where he became one of the more influential members.
In 1670 he became chief of command (häradshövding) in Jämtland and Härjedalen.
Finally, in September 1680, he inherited his uncle, Per Brahe (the younger), title Count and friherre (Baron), and the many and great heirlooms of the tribe, among them Bogesund's castle in the East Ryds parish. Nevertheless, his later years of life were far from trouble-free. The reduction and the great Commission seized violent hand deep into his inherited wealth, and when Karl XI 1682 also made a reduction in the Chamber of Commons, Brahe was one of the first to be removed. Nils Brahe d.y. and his wife is buried in the church of Östra Ryd.
