Here is a link to a site about caps for men in the seventeenth century. It points out that men who wore wigs generally shaved their heads and were probably in need of a cap indoors in the winter months. It also mentions the fact that so-called 'nightcaps' were often worn during the day as well. https://trc-leiden.nl/trc-needles…

I walked to Barn Elms myself last week, sadly no elms these days, but still a very pleasant place. These days it is joggers and cyclists who are around.

As a newcomer, I would just like to comment on how easily Pepys appears to get from London to Westminster and back again, often several times in one day. Presumably much of his travelling would be on the river, but much on foot. I suspect carriages weren’t really an option. I wonder how long all this took.
