The text used for this website comes from the 1893 edition of the diary edited by Henry B. Wheatley. This version of the diary is missing some passages and the few footnotes it contains are somewhat erratic and Victorian.

It is available free from Project Gutenberg as a single file (http://www.gutenberg.net/browse/B… ) or broken down into smaller volumes:

Three **more** years of the L&M diary publ. by the Univ. of California Press searchable online per the Google Print program:

1661
http://print.google.com/print?id=…

1663
http://print.google.com/print?id=…

1664
http://print.google.com/print?id=…

But also note that (quote Google!) "As part of our efforts to protect a book's copyright, a set of pages in every in-copyright book will be unavailable to all users."

I haven't been able to find the diary volume for 1662. That may also be part of Google's copyright protection.

Reading books on Google Print

There have been comments by several annotators about the difficulties with Google Print. To solve these problems, use the following (perfectly legal) procedure:

*To get access to all books on Google print*

Link to:
http://books.google.com/intl/nl/g…

Click on the log-in button at the bottomo the page, and go through the procedure to obtain an ID.
(This link is sometimes unavailable, probably due to an overcrowded server.)

*To get access to the Pepys Companion Volume*

Link to:
http://books.google.com/books?ie=…

Use the link to obtain an ID. This is a very simple procedure: all you have to do is to fill in your email address, and a password of your own choice (write it down somewhere!). After that, you will have access to (almost) all the pages of the Companion, using the search button on top of the page to search for any name, place or anything else.

You will also be able to use this ID & password at any later date to get access to the Companion -- it might be a good idea to save the above link to you favourites, so that you can link to the log-in page easily...

The images are definitely worth a look.
There's an imposing picture of Sam with his wig.

Any likelihood of the L&M being made available for Kindle users?
Out of interest, anyone any ideas as to why it is unavailable?

Bill  •  Link

L&M is still under copyright, of course, and they, and the publishers, would appreciate receiving your coins in return for access. The link above does not give the complete version but omits pages. However, most of the L&M (copyrighted) notes will eventually appear in our version.
